Plot
The Design of Everyday Things Epub, main idea is that even though people often want to blame themselves when things look like they aren’t working, the problem isn’t the user but rather the design’s lack of intuitive guidance. The Psychology of Everyday Things was the title given to the book when it first came out in 1988. Norman said that his professors liked that title, but they thought the new title better conveyed the book’s content and drew in interested readers. The initialisms POET and DOET are frequently used to refer to it.
Norman offers design principles and describes the psychology behind what he considers good and bad design through case studies. Norman borrowed the concept of affordance from ecological psychology from James J. Gibson to introduce the term affordance in the context of design in the book. Flat plates on doors that are meant to be pushed, tiny finger-sized pushbuttons, and long, rounded bars that we naturally use as handles are all examples of affordances.
