Plot Review:
When both families were in Germany, the Schlegels had met and become friends with the Wilcoxs for a brief time. Helen, the younger Schlegel daughter, pays the Wilcox family a visit at Howards End, their country home. She quickly falls in love with Paul Wilcox, the younger Wilcox son, but they soon realize they made the wrong choice and end their relationship by mutual consent. Not long later, the Schlegel sisters go to a show including a presentation of Beethoven’s Fifth Ensemble.
Helen leaves accidentally taking Leonard Bast’s umbrella because she is so enthralled by the images it brings to her mind. Margaret gives Leonard her card and asks him to come get the umbrella with her after the concert.
