Plot Review:
Agnes Grey Epub is the daughter of Mr. Grey, a minister with modest means, and Mrs. Grey, who married purely out of love and left her wealthy family. Mr. Grey tries to improve the family’s financial situation, but the merchant he gives his money to dies in a car accident, putting the family in debt because of the lost investment.
Agnes is dissatisfied with the fact that everyone treats her like a child, despite the efforts made by her sister Mary and their mother to reduce expenses and generate additional income. She is determined to obtain a position as a governess to demonstrate herself and make money. She eventually gets a good recommendation from a well-connected acquaintance, gets a job, and gets permission from her parents.
She goes to Wellwood House to work for the Bloomfield family, but she has some doubts about it. Agnes wasn’t prepared for the wealth and cruelty of the Bloomfield family. While Mr. Bloomfield consistently criticizes Agnes’s work, Mrs. Bloomfield spoils her children.
